Fitted Desk and Cabin Bed
For this project, the brief was to try and fit a home office, a single bed which could turn into a double, lots of storage, and a day bed all into a 2m x 3m room! The design went through lots of iterations but eventually we came up with a solution. The cabin bed is designed for a small single mattress at 750mm wide, and is set at exactly the same height as a camp bed frame. In this way, when the bed needs to become a double, the camp bed frame can sit next to the cabin bed and then take a double mattress.
The desk itself is only 400mm deep, which was the maximum we could go to before it would obstruct the bed. There are a few playful details throughout the room like the scalloped edging strip above the wardrobe and shelving, the finger jointed drawers and the panelling. The cabinet fronts under the bed are just on magnets to try and maximise the storage potential.
